Birendra Lakra selected for European Tour

Hockey India today announced a 21-member Senior Men Hockey Squad, including one from Odisha for the Europe Tour, during which India will play five build-up games in The Hague, Netherlands, from April 9 to 19. This tour is in preparations for the FIH Men’s World Cup 2014, scheduled to be held at The Hague, Netherlands from May 31 to June 15. 

The 21 players were selected on the basis of trials conducted at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi from March 20-21. The Odisha player in the squad is defender Birendra Lakra. Mid-fielder Sardar Singh will lead the team with defender Rupinder Pal Singh as his deputy.
India will play two build-up games against The Netherlands, one against Belgium and two games against Dutch National Club teams.
